History

MMIC was founded in 2007 by Mr. Grantley and Jolander Headley, accomplished musicians, composers and co-proprietors of Joe’s Music Center (JMC). Since its formation MMIC has collaborated with JMC to provide extensive training and artistic development to many students.

MMIC students participate in rigorous evaluations assessing their musicianship and artistry. MMIC students have participated in the New York School State Music Association (NYSSMA). MMIC students were evaluated and ranked from excellent to outstanding in all categories. MMIC also provides opportunities for learning outside the classroom. MMIC has partnered with JMC on several educational field trips to various venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center for Performing Arts.

MMIC also provides opportunities for students to perform. The Jazz Band consisting of eight students between the ages of 7 and 14, performed at various community events sponsored by members of the elected officials and community leaders.  In addition, MMIC students performed at JMC 10th Anniversary summer recital held at York College Music & Performing Arts Center to over 1,000 guests.  Students also performed at JMC’s holiday dinner and recital held at Antunn’s to over 500 guests.
